The Mississippi Health Advocacy Program seeks a Community Outreach Coordinator to generate interest, knowledge about and target referral sources for Health Help's regional office, the Consumer Assistant Program. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing relationships with key community stakeholders, policymakers, and referral sources to educate them about Health Help and the Mississippi Health Insurance Exchange. Applicants must have the ability to communicate with different ages, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds. Applicants must be self starters and motivated individuals. The outreach advocate will work on both local and statewide levels. He/She will be a full time employee of Mississippi Health Advocacy Program reporting directly to the Senior Program Manager.

Establishes and maintains an ongoing community outreach program to increase community and consumer education

Plans, delivers and analyzes focused promotional strategies and campaigns

Regularly contributes to the identification of opportunities for networking and educating communities on the Consumer Assistance Program

Participates in planning and implementation of activities to generate interest and participation in the Consumer Assistance Program

Promotes and educates the health care community on the Consumer Assistance Program

Educates potential referral sources about the Consumer Assistance Program services through face-to-face meetings, presentations, phone, fax, mail and electronic communication

Meets with significant referral sources on a regular basis to form a positive relationship and respond to their specific needs.

Provides referral sources with printed materials and information regarding accessing the web site

Attends community and healthcare fairs to promote Health Help and the Consumer Assistance Program

Completes all paperwork in a timely manner

Works cooperatively as a member of the Mississippi Health Advocacy team, in order to serve all clients

Produces reports for the Senior Program Manager on the projects progress

Represents the project as a spokesperson at public meetings, community rallies, etc.

  • Education: Bachelor Degree in Public Health, Public Administration, Social Work, Political Science or related field

    Experience: Two years experience with health/human services policy development, administration, community development and/or advocacy

    Other: Excellent oral/written communications, organizational and presentation skills Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with diverse groups of people Self-motivated team member; able to work well without daily supervision Good computer skills, including word processing, database, and on-line communications Ability to travel within the state of Mississippi 25% of the time. Must have valid Mississippi Driver's license.
  • Preferred Education: Master's Degree in Public Health, Public Administration, Social Work or Political Science
